Finding Faith ... in

ree

By Pastor Devlyn Brooks

Dear Faith Family …

And on to month two of the new year! … Does anyone else feel as if January flashed by in a blink?

There continues to be quite a busy calendar for our church throughout the month of February, and so I encourage you to study the detailed newsletter calendar that Lisa includes for everyone each month, and also to write these dates in places you frequently look!

Here are some updates …

Rural Revival program

Please keep this Sunday, Jan. 28, on your calendar! … Here’s why …

I believe that most of our congregation has now been introduced to Pastor Melissa Pickering from the Northwestern Minnesota Synod’s “Rural “Revival” program, who is working alongside the FLC congregation to discuss what the future here should look like.

The congregation will have another opportunity to hear Pastor Melissa talk about the work that she has been doing on our church’s behalf this coming Sunday, Jan. 28.

Faith Lutheran’s very own Bob Stein will preside over the service and preach.

But, hold on! There’s more! … We also will have special music from the group known as the “The Doves,” who will be performing during the service. Talk about a big day!

As exciting as all of that will be, please stick around after church for coffee and fellowship time when Pastor Melissa will be hosting a conversation with the congregation about the church, asking folks to share their stories of the past as well as their hopes and desires for the future.

Everyone is invited to stick around and share their thoughts! In fact, we highly encourage it!

Presenting an FLC LYO Dinner Night at the church!

I’d be remiss if I didn’t also take this opportunity to mention again the awesome fundraiser that our LYO group is producing for the entire community on Friday, Feb. 9!

If you haven’t already heard, the youth group is working very diligently to perform a "Murder Mystery Dinner Party" to help raise funds for their trip to the ELCA National Youth Gathering in July.

If you're looking for a unique Valentines day present this year, please consider buying a set of tickets to either the 5 p.m. or 8 p.m. shows on Friday, Feb. 9.

Tickets are $25 for a single, or $40 for a pair. And for your money, you'll receive a 3-course meal, the entertainment of participating in the mystery and the opportunity to win a prize package if you solve the crime!

You can visit with any of the LYO families or myself for more information. And remember, attendees do not have to be a member of our church to attend! They just need to want to have a good time and support our youth! Thank you!

FLC’s plan for Lent

Can we seriously be talking about Lent? Already? … Unbelievable!

Lent will kick off on Wednesday, Feb. 14, with Ash Wednesday. We will begin our Lenten services that night with a service that will include the traditional practice of the imposition of ashes. And in addition, we will kick off a Lenten teaching series that night about Moses, which will run for all six weeks of Lent.

If you’ve been a regular attendee of past FLC Lenten services, you may notice one big change.

In the past, we performed the entire Holden Evening Prayer, led graciously in recent years by Mike Nelson and Veronica Nelson. This year we are moving away from that tradition. While this year some of the Lenten services may feature music from the Holden Evening Prayer, the services won’t center on that production as they have in the past.

Also remember, we’ll kick off the Wednesday night Lenten services with a family style meal at 6 p.m. (with the exception of no meal on Ash Wednesday), and then we’ll move up to the Sanctuary at 6:45 p.m. for service. Services will not be more than 45 minutes.

Looking forward to seeing a lot of folks for this new style of Lenten service! I hope you’re as excited as I am!

Blessings to you this February, Faith Family!
