Finding Faith ... in a taped note on a music stand

Our daughter's band teacher taped this note for the students picking up their instruments.

Good evening Faith Family!

Just a quick check-in to see how you all are doing ...

This afternoon I took our daughter to her school so that she could pick up the rest of her school supplies as they begin online school on Monday.

I didn't expect this out of a sixth-grader, but as we got closer and closer to the school, she grew sadder and sadder.

Finally, as we were turning into the parking lot, she admitted, "I'm sad that we won't be going back to school. ... Sixth grade has been my favorite year yet."

I hadn't expected that reaction from a kid about to get to do school from home, and it made me realize that we are all experiencing losses in our own way during this response to the COVID pandemic.

I was chewing on just this thought as we collected her locker stuff, her classroom stuff and lastly her trumpet in the music room.

But as we waited our turn to enter the musical locker bay, I spotted this photo taped to a music stand outside in the waiting area. ... After such a somber thought on the way into the school, the photo reminded me that there are also many who are shining their lights at the same time as we lament what we miss.

FLC family, I'm not sure what you are missing this evening, but I sure hope that you also are seeing all the ways that the Spirit is active as well during this challenging time. ... Just as I saw the Spirit active in the kind note left by our daughter's band teacher.

So, here is my little gift to you on this evening, my little ray of sunshine.

And now I'm asking you, where are you seeing the Spirit at work? ... Is it in what your neighbor has done for you? ... Is it in how your children are helping out around the house? ... Is it in something you've seen happening around the community?
