Two killed in traffic accident

I first started at the Bemidji (Minn.) Pioneer as an intern in the summer of 1996. That would begin six years as a news reporter, sports reporter and copy editor for a small, six-day-per-week daily newspaper in northern Minnesota. I wrote a large range of stories from multiple beats, to features to sports, my favorite being the coverage of the Red Lake Reservation High School basketball team named the Warriors. Here is a collection of my stories from my time at the Pioneer.

Two people were killed and another was injured in a one-vehicle rollover Thursday in Clearwater County.

Tyrone Valentine Longchase, 32, and Kathy Lynn Lenz, 40, both of Bagley, were killed when the car they were riding in flipped about 10:50 p.m. Thursday on Clearwater County Road 7 about one mile north of Minnesota Highway 200.

A third individual, Donovan David Guinn, 8, of Bagley, was injured in the accident and was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated and released.

Both the Mahnomen County and Clearwater County law enforcement responded to the accident, which took place near the border of the two counties.

The Clearwater Sheriff's Department is still investigating the crash.
